I Don’t Want to Be Pregnant. Is Abortion My Only Option?

If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy, you’re likely feeling overwhelmed about how to move forward. Maybe you feel like you just want this all to go away and that abortion is your only option. This is all understandable, but you’re not alone in this—-and you have options.

Read on to learn more about the different choices you have for your pregnancy, or contact Attleboro Women’s Health today to speak with one of our caring team members. All appointments and resources are free and confidential.

Pregnancy Options

While abortion is the only option that will end your pregnancy, you have two other options: parenting and adoption. These options require you to carry your pregnancy to term.

Parenting

Do you feel like parenting is an impossible option? Are you worried about finances or a lack of emotional support? These feelings are valid, but there are resources that can help you feel prepared and confident to parent.

When considering whether parenting is the right option, asking yourself the following questions can help:

  • Will I have any support from my friends, family, or partner? If not, are there other sources of help in my community? (For example, at a church, work, school, etc.?)
  • Do I need help with housing, food, finances, etc.? If so, where can I find these resources?
  • How will I feel if I choose not to parent?
  • How can I envision this being a rewarding option?

Adoption

Adoption involves giving your parental rights to an adoptive family. This choice may seem  emotionally difficult, but it’s also a selfless act that gives your pregnancy a future.

When considering adoption, there are many different options, depending on what you feel comfortable with. For example, you can choose whether you want to have contact with the adoptive family, the frequency of contact, or if you want to remain anonymous.

To understand if adoption is right for you, it’s essential to speak with an adoption counselor. They will walk you through the adoption process and answer your questions.
